i was born on maui, in a house. high school dropout and series of odd jobs (van-driver, dishwasher, nursery, occult bookstore and off and on in tattoo shops).
i believe in things like: always pray to the virgin mary. channeling, miracles, samadhi, and astrology. tarot, past lives and the collective unconscious. i try to make pictures based on stories i think of or religions or spirits i think i see some times. the way words make me feel. or people or dreams.
i use golden liquid acrylic paints and arches watercolor paper. my method is closest to the tradition of american old school tattoo, which prescribes restrained shading and a limited palette - primary colors and a sepia watercolor. careful rules apply to good tattoo art but i have always liked things folksy so my placement of line color and shading defy logic most of the time.
i like frida kahlo, salvador dali, gustav klimt, leonora carrington, remedios varo, gustav adolf mossa, felix labisse, leonor fini, odd nerdrum, zdzislaw beksinski, henry darger, henri de toulouse lautrec, alphonse mucha. i cant think of more artists i like right now but i know there are more.
i like colonial american paintings, the surrealist movement, and the german expressionists especially their woodcuts. mexican and south american folk art. the symbols and religion of india and tibet. i love textiles and wood sculpture.
